Best model railroad for beginners?
I'd like to start a model RR project with my 12 year old daughter this winter, we have a large basement with plenty of space. I can do the railroad on a hobby table or we could set it up on the floor (?)…. I didn't know what gauge to get? I used to like the older Lionel trains (O-gauge) but I'm wondering if HO is better if you are on a budget and a beginner at model train sets?
N or HO Gauge will be more cost effective to start out. If you have a railroad yard in your town, that would be a great modeling idea. You also can get ideas from train modeling magazines or books at your hobby store, or library. Enjoy.

How do I identiify the maker of a HO model Railroad locomotive (steam) if there is no marking?
I have 6 locomotives, 2 of which appear very old (1950s / 60s or before?) How can I identify these? Any websites??
Check out your local train club. They will not only be able to tell you about your locomotives, but you might find some who want to buy them. If you aren't selling, at least you will have a value, you might want to insure them if the value is high enough.
How do I light up model power buildings for my model railroad?
I have a yellow and white wire coming out of the building. The directions didn't say. I couldn't find it on the internet. Can you give me some answers and links.
This is the most appropriate section i could find sorry.
You should have some idea of how much voltage is needed for the lamps inside. If it is a standard building model and if you have other buildings in your set up just connect the two wires you have to each side of the power supply for the lights in those other buildings. It shouldn't matter which way they are connected unless the light source an LED. If they don't light up one way try switching the wires. Good Luck.
Model Railroad Layouts
Check out some of these Model Railroad Layouts! Even those that are
way too large for your home can give you great ideas that you might
be able to incorporate in your layout.
If you are a member of a model railroad club, you might want to
consider using one of these as an inspiration for your next club
project.
I hope you enjoy viewing these model railroad layouts as much
as I did!
How do I anchor track down for model railroad–N-Guage-when nails won’t hold?
I am building a layout on a hollow core door and I am concerned that the luan is not allowing the tiny nail to bite. Becasue I am using flex track, the cork railbed is not sufficient.
I’ve used latex medium to glue down N-scale Flex track !! I use pins and weights to help hold it down… but on luann or light plywood, it’s PERFECT to adhere it to the roadbed. I’ve also seen folks do it with thin beads of latex caulk.. but I think that would work best with HO track. GOOD LUCK
